| Howdy from all of us at the Bar
Diamond Ranch. Thank you for your interest in hunting with us. We outfit
in the West Elk
Wilderness, which is part of the Gunnison National Forest located in
west central Colorado. The West Elk Wilderness is one of the few places
where elk could still be found around the beginning of the 20th Century.
It is true wilderness with no roads, nothing motorized or mechanized.

This is some
of the better big game country in Colorado partly because of the varied terrain
and partly because it is wilderness with no roads or motorized vehicles.
The altitude varies from about 7,600 feet elevation up to 13,000 feet; the
terrain varies from gentle to very rugged; the vegetation varies from mixed
scrub oak brush to aspen forests, open meadows, dark timber and up to
timberline.

The worlds' record bull elk was taken in this
vicinity in 1899. That record held for over 100 years. Many
record class bucks and bulls have been taken here since that time. The
area is much the same as it was a century ago! According to studies
done and records kept for nearly a hundred years, there are more elk in
Colorado than there has been for over a hundred years. The West Elk
mountains definitely have a good share of them.
We at Bar Diamond Ranch believe that our knowledge
of the area in which we outfit and guide, the good food along with good
camps, riding and packing equipment, mountain trained saddle horses and pack
mules, all go together to offer you an opportunity for one of the best
outdoor vacations you'll ever have!
We hope this information will help you in planning
your 2004 hunt!
